This Sunday (December 1st) local conservation group, People Together for Mt. Ogura (PTO) will be holding a hiking and rubbish clearance event on Mount Ogura in Kyoto’s Sagano district. This from their website:

In the vicinity of Mt. Ogura’s northern flank, especially at Rokucho Pass, we are working to remove large quantities of illegally dumped rubbish that has built up over decades. It contains large items such as motorbikes, bicycles, automobile tires, furniture, mattresses, televisions, refrigerators and washing machines.

Here are the details of Sunday’s event from our friend Stephen Gill:

This time, we will clear illegally dumped rubbish found along autumn-coloured Rokucho Pass (northern flank of Mt. Ogura above the Hozu River Gorge). This is part of the Tokai Long-distance Nature Trail). We welcome anyone and the event is free. Reservations unnecessary.

Rendezvous: ticket barrier JR Saga-Arashiyama Station by 9:55. P

Disperse: vicinity of JR Saga-Arashiyama Station around 16:15.

Bring/wear: walking shoes, weatherproof clothing, sweat towel, small backpack containing lunch and drink. Work gloves, all tools and instruction will be provided.

If in doubt about the weather, ring Gill 080 5334 0990 after 8.10am on Sun. morning.
