Happy New Year to you all! I have returned from my Xmas jaunt to merry old England and am now back, happily ensconced in Deep Kyoto’s hidden fortress with a packet of Hobnobs and some Yorkshire tea… Now, you may well already have seen this information, but just in case you haven’t, here’s the good word from our good friend, Mr. Tadg McLoughlin,
Like all of you, Aidan O’Connor thought he had a pretty normal life until December 2010, when a routine physical revealed a problem. Subsequent examinations confirmed the worst: Aidan had leukemia. Now, a year after being diagnosed and undergoing numerous chemotherapy sessions that failed, Aidan needs a bone marrow transplant to survive.
SAVE AIDAN:
To make this happen, there were be a Benefit Night at Tadg’s on Friday, January 20th, from 8 p.m. to raise money for Aidan.

The Save Aidan campaign aims to raise money for both the 3.5 million yen transplant and the care that will be needed afterwards. A bone marrow donor has been found and Aidan hopes to have the transplant done in Osaka sometime in February. It’s a risky procedure But Aidan, who has two young children and a new home he bought in Sasayama just days before the initial check up revealed a problem, has decided this is his only option.
Long-time readers of Kansai Time Out and The Daily Yomiuri may remember Aidan’s food columns and articles on preparing Japanese food. He is a gourmet chef and bon vivant. His knowledge of Japanese traditional foods and their preparation is unsurpassed by any foreign writer. So of course, Tadg will offer a special buffet that night, for 2,000 yen/person and live entertainment. All proceeds go towards helping Aidan.
