Charity “Books4Books” Book Fair @Tadg’s + Upcoming Craft Beer Events

November 9, 2011 By Michael Lambe Leave a Comment

Kevin Ramsden has organized a special event coming up on Sunday November 27th at Tadg’s Irish Bar & Restaurant. Kevin says,

There will be a “Books4Books” Book Fair during the afternoon on the 27th which will give you the opportunity to buy some great second-hand books (though many are recent titles and in good condition) at super low prices and directly support education and reading for children in third world countries at the same time.  Please check the details below, and pass on this information to as many people as you can:Date:  Sunday November 27thPlace:  Tadg’s Irish Bar & Restaurant (see www.kyotoirish.com  for directions)Time:   12.30 – 6.00

What to do:   To make this book fair work we need two main things.

Basically, you bring, you buy, you doubly donate!!

1)  We need you to come along and bring some of your books with you (in good condition) so that we can add them to the pile and get a good selection going

2)  We then need you to buy some of the other books that will be on offer to keep the donation cycle working.

All books will be priced at 200 yen each, but more generous contributions are definitely encouraged.

All the proceeds from the sale of these books will go to buy books and educational materials for very needy children in schools in Cambodia and in the refugee camps on the Thai/Burma border.

This is Books4Books!!
To make the day even more appealing, Tadg has put together a special reasonably priced ‘All Day’ Sunday lunch menu which will be available from 1.00 pm onwards.  Menu below:
Cream of Winter vegetable soup with organic whole wheat bread rolls.
Seasonal salad
Sunday roast Beef and pork, shallot and herb gravy, vegetables and roast potatoes.
1,200 yen
Kiddies menu:
 Real chicken nuggets
or fish and chips
Jelly and custard
800 yen
There will also be a ‘kids corner’ set up where the wee ones can watch movies on the big screen and hang out, leaving parents to mellow out and enjoy a browse and a brew.
All in all, we hope this will be a really laid back affair for all the family to enjoy, and an opportunity to buy in some books to curl up with on those long winter nights ahead.  Also, and most importantly, you can be happy knowing that your contributions will be helping a host of little readers somewhere else in the world.
Hope to see you all there on the 27th!
Thanks Kevin! Tadg also has a couple of craft beer events coming up that you might want to stick in your diaries. Tadg says,

Its been a busy past few weeks and about to get hectic.

20th November – The All American Craft Beer Festival I haven’t got the line up yet but they will be kick ass, details to follow.

4th December – A legendary Japanese brewery will host their beer  tasting, details to follow.

11th December – We are very excited to be the first in Japan to taste the highly respected Lost Coast Brewery. We will have 7 0f their 9 regular beers and Phred Kaufman will fly in from Hokkaido to party and give a talk on these great beers. Have a look at their site here http://www.lostcoast.com/

The Beer Events start at 1pm, special lunch menu available. A great way to spend Sunday!

Thank you Tadg! Tadg’s bar is now taking bookings for their Thanksgiving Dinner. Details of that are here. Tadgs Bar has recently been voted the Number One Beer Bar in Kyoto by Japanese Food/Beer site Tabelog! Well done to all at Tadg’s! To find Tadg’s walk straight up Kiyamachi from Sanjo, before you get to Oike you should see the Empire building on your right. Tadg’s is on the 8th floor. Click here for a most convenient map.
