Language enthusiast, Yoshio Takaoka (pictured above), has been organizing a number of international discussion salons at the Pig & Whistle pub now for nigh on 20 years. The subjects under discussion are highly topical, but the emphasis is placed on making everyone welcome whether their language level is beginner or advanced. Takaoka-san really doesn’t mind if you communicate using, gestures, writing, phrasebooks or dictionaries just so long as you feel relaxed. And whether you are interested in speaking French, Chinese, Arabic or English, there is a monthly salon for you!

Takaoka-san says, “This is not an English class, neither is it a conversation club, but a space where you can encounter NIPPON from a different perspective.”
