Many thanks to Juliet Knapp for sending in the following information.

THEATRE / DANCE / PERFORMANCE / MUSIC / VISUAL ART / DESIGN

Taking place every autumn for around one month, Kyoto Experiment is Kyoto’s first international performing arts festival, bringing together cutting-edge theater and dance from around the world. The Official Program comprises a dozen or more examples of experimental works by leading global artists. The eighth festival will be held between October 14th and November 5th, 2017.

As always, the festival will include specifically commissioned new work by international artists. By serving as an experimental place for creativity and interchange, the festival aspires to transform Kyoto into a platform for the global performing arts. This year’s programming is themed around encounters with the “inner other.” The participating artists will present work that transcends familiar contexts of geography, genre and style to uncover what is “different” within society and us.

This year’s artists include Teppei Kaneuji, Kyoto based sculptor who will be presenting his “live art” stage performance, internationally acclaimed sound artist Ryoji Ikeda, contemporary percussion collective Eklekto and Trisha Brown’s New York based postmodern dance company, among many others.
