La Table de Thierry

November 4, 2009 By dk-admin89 2 Comments

UPDATE January 2012: Sad to say, but this fine restaurant has now closed.

I wanted to take Mewby somewhere a little bit posh for her birthday, so I asked my friend Helen B. if she could recommend a nice place. She always has the best recommendations and she didn’t disappoint me this time either. La Table de Thierry is a gorgeous French restaurant on the 9th floor of the Takase building on Sanjo. The view over the Kamogawa at night is just perfect. I actually found myself thinking “I didn’t know Kyoto was as beautiful as this!” The food was of course perfect too and we savored every mouthful! Here’s Mewby enjoying her beef simmered in red wine:

"Meat!"

As you can see she was pretty happy about that. She liked her cake (or cakes) too:

Sweets!

And at the end of the meal the chef himself, Thierry Houngues (a former Iron Chef challenger!) came out to wish Mewby a happy birthday in person. I’d recommend checking out the restaurant’s menu here. They have a number of courses, but the 5,000 yen course suited us just fine. For that extremely reasonable price you get to choose your own entrees, main course and dessert. The food was exquisite, and I ate so much I could barely move when I was leaving.  Check out the website for yourself for pictures and for menu details. This place made our night!

It is just fabulous isn’t it Michael!

I went to a Shinnenkai here last year for the first time with 30 odd foreign women!

We all uuuu’ed and ahhhhh’ed in such satisfaction complete!

    Kyoto looked soooooo very pretty!

ANOTHER party there in January because everybody wants more of it!

Kyoto friend Jane W also told me the famously French rotisserie chicken
sold there are simply FANTASTIC for Thanksgiving or Christmas lunch!

    Another reason to go back!
