This Saturday PTO (People Together for Mount Ogura) & the Hailstone Haiku Circle will have a joint hiking/recreational event on Mt Ogura. Here are the details from Stephen Gill:

“Come out and enjoy the autumn foliage this coming Sat. (Nov. 23)? We have a composition hike (in association with the NPO, People Together for Mt. Ogura). If you’re on Facebook, please like our FB page “小倉山百人一集の会 PTO (People Together for Mt. Ogura)” and look at the new photo album there of trail preparation on 16.11.13 for this event. You can see how beautiful this little-walked trail is.

Depart JR Saga-Arashiyama Station around 9:50.

Autumn leaves at their best in one of Kyoto’s most beautiful locations!

We will walk a less well-known path above the Hozu River along the southern face of Mt. Ogura searching for leaves, mushrooms, stones, bark, sticks, berries, soil, ferns, etc. to use later in the making of some ‘objet trouvé’-type artwork that may be shown in February 2014 in an exhibition in Kyoto. Through some of these works, we hope to give people an inspiring impression of the beauties of the mountain. Poets on the hike will be encouraged to draft haiku or tanka, too. You are welcome, however, to participate even if you don’t wish to look for objets or write poems!

After eating our packed lunches near the summit, we aim to lend a hand with the planting of 50 maple saplings. 小倉山峰のもみじ葉心あらば…(藤原忠平).

Return to Saga (and train stations) by around 4:30. Total distance covered on the day: 3-4 km. If you have time to stay on afterwards, we may head into a café or restaurant at the foot of the mountain (till 6).

Please bring your own packed lunch & drink and perhaps some plastic bags for collecting objet art materials. Wear strong shoes, warm clothes, and bring a waterproof jacket. Cotton gloves and tools for tree-planting will be provided.

Cellphones on the day: Gill 090 1132 0467, Maeda 090 3289 4399.

If wet, please telephone 075 865 0995 (Stephen, home) after 08:30 to check exactly what we plan to do. We might postpone to 24th.”
