So, Silver Week begins! Here’s a couple of live music events to start off your five day weekend!
Saturday 19th
Roger Walch sent me some details about famed Japanese Blues singer-songwriter Mikami Kan‘s live performance tomorrow at the opening party for his calligraphy exhibition. He doesn’t perform too often in Kyoto so this is a wonderful opportunity to catch his unique folk/blues style.
Opening party & concert for Mikami Kan’s calligraphy exhibition at Gallery Nozawa.
7 pm start,
Place: Gallery Nozawa, Tel 075-353-7990.
Entry fee: 2500 yen (advanced), 3000 yen (at the door),
Reservations: 090-3670-6001 (Noda-san).
Thanks, Roger!

I am a shakuhachi player, and I am playing at a performance on Sunday that you might be interested in. The venue is a cafe created from an old machiya in Nishijin. It’s called Le Trois Maisons. Here is a link to the location. The concert is going to be me on shakuhachi, a guy playing the sho
(another traditional Japanese instrument), a soprano, and a woman
playing crystal bowls. I’m really looking forward to the concert, and if you want to come I think you’d like it. There are two shows, one at 5 and one at 7 PM. You can split a pot of tea with your wife if you want, I’m sure. 🙂
There’s no fee, you just have to order one drink (from the woman who runs the place who is gorgeous). And, I think they said they would pass around a hat after the performance.
Thank you, Zachary!
Sorry you couldn’t make it. Jeffrey has a nice write-up on his site here: http://regex.info/blog/2009-09-20/1316
