Mewby and I are off to Thailand for two weeks so Deep Kyoto will be on hiatus in the interim. There are however, other sites you could be reading while we are away!
For FOOD & DRINK, Eat, Drink, Kyoto has a lot of recommendations, as does Kyoto Kyoto .JP. The latter has some good shopping tips too.
EVENTS & ACTIVITIES:
For cultural events pretty much everything you need to know is up on Green Tour Kyoto and Kyoto Visitor’s Guide. For fun activities check the listings on the Kansai Scene website.
TOHOKU:
On a more serious note to keep up with the nuclear situation in Fukushima follow Green Action’s Fukushima Update blog here. You can also follow Rob Mangold and IDRO Japan’s great work in Tohoku at http://idrojapan.posterous.com.
For a GOOD SUMMER READ: Kyoto Journal #76 will be online as a digital edition very, very soon (apparently) – as will their newly revamped website.
CHARITY SHOP NEWS: Upon my return, Sheila Campbell and I will be setting up a charity shop to support IDRO Japan‘s disaster relief work up north. We have found the perfect place, in a very central location but haven’t quite hammered out the details with our kind benefactor yet. If all goes to plan we will be accepting donated goods again from August 29th and holding our Grand Opening Party at the end of September. I’m not sure but I think this must be Kyoto’s very first charity shop – no? In the meantime if you come across any abandoned bookcases or clothes racks – hold on to them please! See you in two weeks!
