  • Long Island Cafe

Long Island Cafe is a friendly little English conversation cafe in Kyoto, not far from the Coccon Karasuma building. Customers can chat freely here in a relaxed atmosphere, without any of the pressure of a normal school. If you are a native speaker and are interested in becoming an instructor here, the pay rates are as follows:

For free conversation “Cafe Time”: ¥1,000 per hour.
    For lessons: ¥1,500 per hour.

This goes up after 3 months to:

    Cafe Time: ¥1,200
    Lessons: ¥2,000

The pay isn’t great I know, but it is cash in hand, the job is super-easy and you can have a couple of free drinks into the bargain. I used to work here on weekends when I was a student, just to make a bit of extra pocket money. Oh, and the staff are cute. And they have good parties… Here is the proprieter Reiko Nakajima to tell us all about it:

    Update (August 3rd)
: After a long hiatus, Long Island Cafe reopened on August 3rd 2008 at its new site on Gokomachi / Aneyakoji (near Teramachi / Sanjo) a far more convenient location and just a stone’s throw away from our old friend Prototype. Here is a most convenient map. More details will be posted later. Tel:090-6238-0990
