  • Falafel Garden

Falafel Garden according to my strict definition, is not really “Deep Kyoto“, in being a fairly well-known establishment. However, I feel bound to include it, because if you don’t know it, you should. It’s far too tasty. In the three years since Amir opened the restaraunt it has become very very popular with Japanese and foreigners alike. And although not strictly speaking a vegetarian restaraunt, (they do have some kebabs and schnitzle for the carnivores), this restaraunt is a god-send for the tofu-tiring vegans. (Not to mention the health benefits of all that protein and fibre and that oh so nut-buttery taste…)

    OK, here’s your basic menu:

S-sized Falafel (3 glorious balls in pita with salad and sauce): ¥370

    M-sized Falafel (5 of the above & etc): ¥520

    L-sized Falafel (8 golden balls, texture like sun…): ¥790

    Hummus in Pita Bread: ¥450

Baba Ghanoush (aubergine and sesame paste in pita): ¥550

Avocado and Cream Cheese in Pita: ¥630

    A (trusty) Kebab: ¥630

They also do drink sets with a range of teas, coffees, shakes, soups and juices. Here are some pictures, you can hover your cursor over them for information or double click for a better look. I know there’s not much on there yet but the beauty of flickr is, I can add more pictures of other dishes later, as and when I eat them. Great, eh?

To find Falafel Garden, go 100m east of the Eiden line exit of Demachiyanagi station and it’s right opposite the post office. If you get to a convenience store – you’ve gone too far. Opening hours are 11:00 a.m. ~ 9:00 p.m. and Wednesday is the regular holiday.
