Fleur de Farine

July 4, 2009 By 2 Comments

img_0718Today I bought my lunch at the bakery Fleur de Farine. This tiny little store sells french style loaves in a variety of shapes and sizes. Apparently, they also sell a British style loaf but it is always sold out when I go there.img_0728-medium

That loaf set me back 315 yen. I stocked up on sandwiches today. This roll contains pumpkin croquette (241 yen).img_0724-medium

And here is the vegetable sandwich (231 yen – also contains cheese!).img_0725-medium

And here we have a croissant with thinly sliced potato salad with cheese (231 yen – also contains minute fragments of bacon!)img_0721-medium

This store is also very popular for it’s pastries. Here we have a cherry danish (168 yen).img_0727-medium

And here we have a pear (168 yen). img_0726-medium

I’m saving those two for my breakfast… Fleur de Farine (which sounds very elegant in French but very silly in English) is located on the east side of Higashinotoin, just a hop skip and a jump south of Sanjo. There’s a very handy map on this page. They are open from 8:00 ~ 18:00 everyday but Sunday and national holidays. Tel: 075-223-5070.

have you checked out the bakery in the food court of Takashimaya? The bread is superb, particularly the French baguette and the prices are reasonable. However, in the summer when it is mushi-atsui, you have to hurry home with your baguette and eat it right away. The crispy crust goes sad quickly in the humidity.

Yes, I buy bread there sometimes. There are some good things there and I like the bagels that I wrote about here previously:

With the exception of Bagel & Bagel though, the bakeries they have there are a bit run-of-the-mill (ha ha). For really great tasting bread you should try some independent bakeries like Bread Room or Walder. Those are the kinds of places I am looking for.
