Chinari Ghar is a wonderful Nepali restaurant up in Kamigyo Ward that we discovered a few months ago.

We happened to be in the area near Kitano Tenmangu Shrine around lunchtime one day, and looking for a place to eat on Google Maps this restaurant caught my eye. Checking the reviews it seemed that the restaurant had built itself quite a reputation for its spicy momos – a kind of steamed dumpling. We like momos, and Nepali food in general so it was an easy choice.

The moment we arrived at the place, and before we had even opened the door, one of the staff came out with a super-friendly greeting and cheerfully ushered us inside and to a table. As my picture shows the interior is bright and clean and throughout our meal we were impressed by the attentive service.

The most important thing of course is the food – and this was fantastic. Although they have some very reasonable lunchtime sets, we treated ourselves to an a la carte meal with samosas, mango lassis, curries, nan breads (cheese for Mewby and Kashmiri for me) and of course – momos!

The latter really did live up to their reputation – they were delicious! Here are some more pictures.

There is also a shop upstairs from the restaurant where you can buy a variety of foods and spices. I was particularly intrigued by the goat and buffalo meat – not something you see everyday.

Chinari Ghar is located on the west side of Senbon Dori Street a short walk south of Ichijo Dori Street. It’s about 10 minutes from Kitano Tenmangu on foot and 18 minutes from Kitano Hakubaicho Station on the Randen Tram Line. Here’s a map to the location.
And if that location is not good for you – Chinari Ghar also do deliveries via Uber Eats.
